Free Cleft Surgery Campaign Reaches Rumbek
Organisers describe an initial patient group and a further session planned for November.

A free cleft surgery campaign began at Rumbek State Hospital on Wednesday, with about 20 patients expected to receive treatment, Radio Tamazuj reported.
The programme involves Cleft Support International, the Catholic Diocese of Wau and state health authorities. Organisers said another session was planned for 8–9 November.
The hospital’s acting medical director acknowledged that the initial public message had not reached everyone. Organisers also described access difficulties affecting people from Rumbek North.
The reported expected patient total should not be treated as the number of completed operations. The November dates remain an announced plan, which families should confirm directly with the hospital before travelling.
For a service campaign, follow-up should cover completed treatment, arrangements for patients who could not attend and continuity of care after the visiting team departs. Those measures provide a fuller picture of access than the launch announcement alone.
The experience also raises a communication question: whether future notices reach remote communities early enough for families to make practical arrangements. SSP has not independently verified individual clinical outcomes.
