Investigations Ethics & Methodology
South Sudan Press conducts investigations in the public interest. Our investigative reporting is evidence-based, carefully verified, and guided by the principles of accuracy, fairness, and harm minimisation.
Verification
- We corroborate key claims using multiple independent sources where possible
- We distinguish between allegation, evidence, and verified fact
- We retain notes and supporting materials for editorial review
Sourcing & confidentiality
- We may grant anonymity to sources when safety or serious retaliation risks exist
- We use confidential sources sparingly and with additional verification
- We do not publish identifying details that could endanger civilians without strong justification
Right of reply
Where appropriate, individuals and institutions named in critical reporting are offered a meaningful opportunity to respond before publication. Responses received are reflected fairly and accurately.
Minimising harm
- We consider risks to victims, witnesses, and communities
- We avoid publishing operational details that could enable harm
- We take care when reporting on children and vulnerable individuals
Corrections
If we make an error, we correct it promptly and transparently. See our Corrections & Clarifications page.
